Iron Flame - Rebecca Yarros - Top Book Pick!
/Fantasy
Rating: 9/10
Although Violet lived to fight another day past the last page of Fourth Wing, that doesn’t assure her continued survival. After all, now the real training begins.
The end of the first book in the series revealed a lot of hidden secrets that Violet, and those close to her, must now contend with. None of which I am going to share, because you know, spoilers. In addition, they must face the grueling and often maliciously brutal training that comes in year two. Designed to stretch the rider’s capacity for pain beyond endurance.
If you think you learned everything there was about this world in book one, think again. If you think there can’t possibly be any more secrets to be laid bare, think again.
As with Fourth Wing, I loved the banter between dragon and rider and the steamy and delicious romance between Violet and Xaden. After, let’s call it a spat, at the end of the last book, Violet makes him work hard for her trust and forgiveness. And he is all in my fellow readers, in ways that will make even the most die-hard pragmatist swoon.

Unrelenting action (seriously, it’s a little exhausting)
Jaw dropping ending(s) (OMG)
Sassy and smartass dragons (hilarious)
Bookish and brave female protagonist (repeat; bookish)
