When The Wolf Comes Home - Nat Cassidy - Top Book Pick!
/Horror
Rating: 9/10
This book brazenly borrows tropes from fairytales. Happily Ever After is not one of them.
Jess is a down on her luck actress working the night shift at a shitty dinner. One night after work she hears a whimpering outside her apartment and when she looks closer, she finds a terrified little boy. A boy who is hiding from his very scary, and very wolf like, father. As they go on the run together, Jess finds herself in the middle of an unending nightmare, leaving a trail of unfathomable slaughter in their wake. And that’s before she realizes that the boy is causing it all. He can turn every fear into a reality. And every thought into a fear. Just picture it…or pick up the book and read it for yourself.
This book was all kinds of nasty fun, full of unabashed and relentless bloody carnage. The sort of epic horror we got in the ‘80’s that came out swinging and left nothing unscathed. Ah, the good old days.
Lessons learned…be careful what you wish for, and the greatest fear is fear itself. I will leave it at that.
Footnote: sometimes in adulthood you forget that behind the pretty packaging of a fairytale lies a monstrous truth…
A house made of sweets…
A juicy red apple…
An enchanted castle…
A wheel that spins straw into gold…
