Our Infinite Fates - Laura Steven- Top Book Pick!

Rating: 9/10
They have loved each other in a thousand lifetimes. They have killed each other in every one of them. Lovers. Soulmates. Assassins. Enemies.
The story opens with Evelyn and Arden exchanging their wedding vows; I love you. I have loved you. And I will love you again. Minutes later they lie dead after slitting each other’s throats.
Fast forward a few hundred lifetimes and meet an Evelyn jaded by love. Tired of Arden seducing her to fall hopelessly in love with him, only to become her murderer. Again. He has hunted her in each lifetime but won’t tell her why. Why must she be killed. Why does he die mere seconds later. While mutually assured destruction is a given, just once she would like to find him first. To have the upper hand.
Evelyn is tethered to her most recent life more deeply than those past. She must stay alive long enough to save her dying sister. Dare she hope to make Arden see reason? Will he do this for her? After everything they have lived through? Died through?
The author does a brilliant job of teasing out what brought our characters to this moment, taking readers back and forth across time and place. She makes us feel the characters desperation and passion. What if this pact to kill each other again and again was necessary, or worse, what if it was deserved.
The last time I read a story of star-crossed lovers this sweeping and powerful was Romeo & Juliet. Let’s hope they are not doomed to the same fate.
